Peel Testing
Peel testing is one way to characterize adhesive bonds. It is used extensively to evaluate the bonding strength of tape, adhesives and flexible substrates, including rubber, films, biomaterials, dental materials, medical packaging and consumables. Typical tests involve peeling two bonded flexible adherends from each other, or peeling a flexible bonded adherend from a rigid substrate. Peel tests are usually conducted at a constant rate at various angles, with 90° and 180° being the most common. Parameters such as peak peel load, average peel strength and statistical measures of peel strength variability are typically used to characterize behavior under peel loading.
MTS material testing solutions offer everything you need to generate accurate, repeatable peel test results, including the feature-rich but user-friendly application software required to collect and analyze peel test data and calculate results quickly and easily. We also bring unmatched domain expertise to material testing. Other key MTS capabilities for peel testing include:
• Flexible software templates for running standards-compliant tests with ease
• Tabletop and floor-standing electromechanical and servohydraulic load frames
for a range of force requirements
• Digital controllers with high channel density, high capacity and superior configurability
• Rugged, high-performance grips for 180° peel tests and special fixtures for 90°
