The
School of Engineering at Universidad Nacional Jorge Basadre Grohmann held an inauguration ceremony on Monday, March 18, 2024 to mark the opening of its new, state-of-the-art Structures & Seismology Laboratory in Tacna, Peru. Equipped with advanced test and simulation tools from MTS, the lab will enable scientists, engineers, professors, and students to perform the research needed to improve the resiliency of Peru’s infrastructure and inform the development of effective Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) methods and policies. The lab also features leading-edge hybrid simulation technology, which combines physical tests of building components with computer models of full structures to analyze how complete structural systems respond to real-world seismic or dynamic loading.
The new UNJBG Structures & Seismology Laboratory features an array of precision structural, seismic, and materials testing equipment supported by an infrastructure of highly efficient hydraulic power generation and distribution, sophisticated controls, and full-featured application software.
